Parents,
I am sorry to say that the flu has hit our household last night with my daughter and I falling victim to it. I am back at school today so I can help them prepare for their test tomorrow.

We have a student teacher who is working with the class until the last part of April. Tyler Mackey is visiting us from USAO.
Once we get back from Spring Break we will jump into Mexico and North America to finish out the year

Week of 1/17- 1/20
IMPORTANT! There will be a unit test over South America next Wednesday January 25th. The students will have a review day on Wednesday Jan. 18th and two review days on Monday and Tuesday Jan. 23rd and 24th.
On Friday Jan. 20th all of my Social Studies classes will be able to work with a large map of South America. There are about 3 lesson that each class will participate in with the map. Please make sure that your student has socks on their feet or in their backpack this Friday.

week of 12/12-12/16
We will be wrapping up this semester with a mapping lab of Latin America. Students will work in groups while investingating political,physical and special purpose maps of different countries of Latin America. Together they will complete different tasks in order to help them create their own maps of South America.
I will be calling students in during advisory and Overtime in order to take care of any missing or makeup work.
Thursday I will be out of the classroom and they will be working on a current event activity with the sub.

Week of 11/14-11/18
This week, students will be introduced to Economic sectors and levels. They will be taking notes from the book and Google Slides with the class, as well as some group Economic activities. Friday (11/18) and Monday (11/21) we will be in the library with Mrs. Barker working on the Guided Inquiry History Project.

Monday: Guided Inquiry: Immerse- we will begin to skim articles and websites for their Year Long History Project. Project will be completed by the end of the year.
Tuesday: Election Day. We will be going down to the library and enjoying some Election Day Activities with Mrs. Barker and Ms, Argo.
Wednesday: Government OPEN NOTES quiz. They should have all the notes, we have worked on the past week. If they are lacking or need to get clarification on some notes, PLEASE have them ask their partner or come to see me during advisory or Overtime and I can help
Thursday: Current Event/Election result recap. I will also be out of the class during the afternoon at a district meeting
Friday: Veteran's Day Lesson

Wednesday: Climate graphs/QUIZ covering Plate Movements, Landforms and Climate. The format will be matching, multiple choice with a climate graph to read.

Week of 10/10-10/14
I will be calling students in during Overtime Thursday and Friday and Next Wednesday in order to get in any late work or redo quizzes or test before the First 9 Weeks ends on the 21st of October.
Monday and Tuesday the class will be introduced to Time Zones in both the United States and the World.
Wednesday and Thursday they will combine their Map Skills and Time Zone skills in a a "Race Around the World"
Friday we will discuss and jump into our Citizenship theme for this year "Taking a Stand"

Our week in class:
Monday: CNN Student Video and discussion of the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. If you would like to view the small video we watched, you can access it at CNN.com/studentnews
We also work and completed Map Projection Notes and Continents and Ocean Notes
Tuesday: We will practice plotting Latitude and Longitude coordinates. Start our "Paper Plate World"
Wednesday: I will be out of the class attending a Geography conference for 6th and 7th grade teachers. The classes have been told of my absence since last week. We have discussed Guest Teacher behavior and what I am expecting. Lunch and or after school detention could possibly be a consequence for being disrespectful behavior while I am out of the classroom. Students will have the class period to finish up their paper plate world. If it is not complete by Wednesday in class, they must finish it at home and turn it in Thursday.

This week in class we will begin our Map Skills Unit. We are taking notes with Power Points over basic map skills (directions, hemispheres, scale, latitude and longitude, map projections and distortions)

This week in class we are opening up our Social Studies curriculum with the 5 themes of Geography. Students will work in class on creating their "Flip Book" with definitions and illustrations for each of the five themes. They will have ample time in class to create and finish the book by the end of the the hour on Wednesday. COMPLETED BOOKS ARE DUE THURSDAY. Students will be graded using a rubric which will be shared with them in class.
On Thursday, each class will participate in a "5 Themes of Geography Tour of Longfellow" where they will have to identity and record examples of each theme.
